How many times you typed something into Google and you see a list of topics related to the subject you’re looking for? That’s pretty amazing that Google knows you that well! But there’s an explanation behind this and in this post I will go into a little more detail of how ubiquitous Google really is and how it can benefit your business.

Do you know what’s great?

It’s when you have people in your life that knows you more so than you believe they know you.

No, I’m not talking about stalkers!

I’m talking about those loved ones like family and friends.

Have you ever had the feeling that something was wrong, and call your friends or family who happened to live far away. Then you verbally find out there was an actual problem.

Or what about the times that you tried to find the right words to express yourself, and you’re friends finished the sentence that expressed exactly how you feel?

Amazing isn’t it? There’s a level of telepathic communication we tend to overlook.

Have you noticed that Google has this similar characteristic each time you do a search?

Let’s just say that you want to do a search on, lets just say Online Lead Generation.

Based on this, Google will pull of a list of topics that are related to this.

When I type it in it pulls up:

Online Lead Generation Techniques

Online Lead Generation Companies

Online Lead Generation Strategies

Online Lead Generation Association

This is a great list since I didn’t really think of these other 4 topics.

This is the workings of Google’s Knowledge Graph which I will go more into detail later in this post. But this can be a power tool if you’re playing the field right!

Many of you may not be impressed with this. It may seem like going to a psychic and they tell you things that you already know. But let me just add that this is great for your blog as well as your home business.

Why?

Well what if you’ve been Branding yourself as well as your products, service, and/or opportunities? For example, when people say magnetic sponsoring, the first thing that pops into your head is Mike Dillard, right?

Have you tried typing this into Google? Try it!

Get my point?

The is the power behind the Knowledge Graph.

Now before we get into the Knowledge Graph, Lets brief talk about Personal Branding.

First Lets Define Personal Branding knowledge graph

I just found this definition in Wikipedia that resonates with me.

Personal Branding is essentially the ongoing process of establishing a

prescribed image or impression in the mind of others about an individual,

group, or organization. It also involves creating an asset by defining the

individual digital and online presence and areas of knowledge in a way

leading to a uniquely distinguishable, and ideally memorable impression.

When it comes to marketing anything, the first thing you want to market is yourself.

You want to market yourself as someone who is

Genuinely interested in their Niche Market

Interested in Their Problems

Provide Solutions To Their Problems

Consistently Be of Value

What does this affect? This will positively affect:

Trust

Authority

Reputation

But the key here is knowing who your Niche Market is. It is an effort to connect with and sell to a specific group of consumers within a big market. The product or services is geared and customized specifically to their interest.

Once you define who your niche market is, then you want to make sure that when they see your products or services, they think of you. Or better yet, they have a strong trust for them to buy anything from you or even share your offers with their friends.

On this note, Google works similar to this! Based on the information collected, The Knowledge Graph builds a list for any search that you do.

Also I want to make reference to David Amerland’s book Google Semantic Search for the information I’m sharing in this post.

So Let’s go a little further into detail of knowledge graphs and how Google ties the information it collects into it.

Knowledge Graph So How Does Google’s Knowledge Graph Builds Its List

Google get its data from several resources

  • Websites
  • Social Networks
  • Professional Networks
  • Profiles
  • Databases
  • From Google Search Itself

But unfortunately this isn’t enough? Why? Because Google have to give this data some meaning, and of course see how they are related to each other

Check out my last post How Do You Get Searched

So to make sense of this data, Google first groups them in their relative categories in the same way we group in:

  • Social Media
  • Web Platforms (Like Forms)
  • Google Search (By search quieries)

As a result we get:

  • Social networks with shared content
  • Social networks with comments and interaction
  • Commercial websites with reviews and opinions
  • Website platforms with the creation of content

Also, you want to keep in mind that data can be collected offline. For example:

  • Data collected via our GPS system on a mobile phones based on our location
  • Location based on the IPaddress
  • Machine collated data (when devices connect and talk to other devices)

So How Is Knowledge Graph Going To Help You?

Now you’ve been branding yourself to your Niche Market and at the same time your niche market has been indirectly helping you with your brand, based on the information collected for the Knowledge Graph

Now there is another piece of the puzzle that directly relates to building the list in the Knowledge Graph. It is literally called “Serendipity”. Serendipity is defined as ‘a happy accident’ or ‘a pleasant surprise’. So basically finding something that will benefit you even though you weren’t specifically looking for it.

Now in the old days of doing Google Search, you had to type keyword after keyword, or phrase after phrase in order to find what you’re looking for.

Serendipity is included into Google Semantics algorithm and it makes knowledge graph what it is. So therefore, whenever you do a search by typing in a keyword or phrase, Google gives you 4 more options relating to what you’re looking for.

Isn’t this great?

So how does this work for you and your business?

If you’ve been doing your due diligence in branding yourself, could you imagine if someone types in a product that you promote, your name, blog, social networks happens to pop up?

Well this is something to think about!

Now It’s Your Turn!

How are you branding yourself? Do you see how Google’s Knowledge Graph can benefit you and your home business? What have you been doing to put yourself in front of your Niche Market? Please share your comments below and share this post with your friends. I look forward to read them!
